Camper Furniture Kits – Multiple Layouts and Options

  • When it comes to van models, we classify them into five main categories for our Camper Furniture Kits.

Every van model can be equipped with the Camper Furniture Kit in the 2+1 version, with an additional 25 cm supplement. Scroll down for details and a link to the specific page.

Small Camper Vans:

Berlingo, Rifter, Opel Combo Life, Toyota Proace City, Dacia Dokker, Renault Kangoo, VW Caddy, Mercedes Citan - Clase T, Fiat Doblo, Ford Tourneo - Transit Connect, Ford Tourneo - Transit Courier, Peugeot Partner, and all similar models.

In the Camper Furniture Kits for this type of van, the layout is as follows:

  • Right side: the kitchen drawer, divided into 3 spaces.

    1. Space for a Campingaz single-burner stove (can also be adapted for a 2-burner stove upon request at no extra cost).

    2. Below the stove, there is a compartment for kitchenware such as pots, cutlery, plates, etc.

    3. At the back, there is an additional pantry-style space for food storage.

  • Center: space for the table. The table can be used as a dining table, in hammock position, and either inside or outside the vehicle. (If you prefer not to include a table, it can be built without it, though we recommend it for its versatility).
The central space is also large enough to fit a portable WC.

  • Left side: a compartment with top and front access, ideal for storing accessories such as clothes, a portable fridge, or a portable shower.

  • Bed: the furniture includes the bed, usable both in sleeping position and in hammock position, allowing you to rest while semi-reclined.

Measurements:

  • Width: usually between 110–117 cm, and with the mattress approx. 120 cm (with some exceptions depending on the van).

  • Height: around 35–36 cm.

  • Length (bed open with mattress): approx. 185–190 cm.

For each van model, we provide a dedicated page with all the details and an explanatory video.

Medium Vans for Camper Furniture Kits:

Berlingo XL, Rifter Long, Opel Combo Life Xl, Toyota Proace City Larga, Renault Kangoo Maxi, Caddy Maxi, Ford Tourneo - Transit Connect Batalla larga, Nv200, Nissan Vanette - Serena.

These models are essentially the same as those described in the previous section, with one key difference: the Camper Furniture Kit is approximately 30 cm deeper than in the standard / M size.

This provides more storage space and includes two additional large-capacity trunks. One of them is specifically designed to fit a fridge (if not installed, it can be used for other storage, but having the fridge option is always an added benefit).

There is also another trunk designed to hold either an outdoor shower or a clean water tank.

The table compartment remains the same, still allowing space for a portable WC just as in the smaller kit version. In summary: the front layout is the same, but the rear section is 30 cm longer, which means more storage and a slightly more versatile configuration.

Measurements:

  • Width: usually between 110–120 cm. With mattress, most are 120–145 cm (with some exceptions, slightly smaller or larger).

  • Height: usually around 35–51 cm.

  • Length (bed open with mattress): approx. 185–220 cm.

For each van model, we provide a dedicated page with full details and an explanatory video.

See example video:

Large Vans for Camper Furniture Kit:

Renault Trafic, VW Transporter T4, T5, T6, T7, VW Caravelle T4,T5,T6,T7, Opel Vivaro - Zafira, Nissan Primastar, Nv300, Fiat Talento, Citroën Jumpy - SpaceTourer, Peugeot Expert - Traveller, Toyota Proace Verso, Mercedes, Vito - Viano - Clase V, Hyundai H1, Fiat Scudo, Ford Tourneo - Transit Custom.

These vans are generally larger in width, depth, and height. In the combi versions, the wheel arches are often exposed. We cover them with side modules that both widen the bed and serve as storage compartments, thanks to their top-access lids (as shown in the photo).

Current layout:

  • Right side: the kitchen drawer has the same layout as smaller vans but is taller, providing more space for kitchenware and pantry storage.

  • Center: as always, the table—but here it is larger and taller. It remains suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

  • Left side: a trunk with top and front access, primarily intended for a 20L outdoor shower tank (even up to 2 tanks can fit).

  • Rear section: two large-capacity trunks. One is designed to hold a 35–40L fridge, while the other can be used for general storage.

Measurements:

  • Width: approx. 114–162 cm including side modules. With mattress, most range between 120–175 cm (with some exceptions slightly smaller or larger).

  • Height: approx. 44–61 cm.

  • Length (bed open with mattress): approx. 185–190 cm.

For each van model, we provide a dedicated page with full details and an explanatory video.

These larger vans can also be equipped with a sink unit, positioned under the passenger window, similar to a California-style layout. (We include a button linking to this specific product).

Example video:

Extra-Large Vans for Camper Furniture Kit:

Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper, Ford Transit, Renault Master, Opel Movano, Mercedes Sprinter, Fiat Ducato.

These large-volume vans are practically the same as the large van category, with the same general configuration. The difference is that the Camper Furniture Kit is larger in both width and height. It can also be configured with a sink unit, which is in fact very common for this type of van.

Measurements:

  • Width: usually between 131–175 cm including side modules. With mattress, most range from 160–180 cm (with some exceptions slightly smaller or larger).

  • Height: approx. 44–61 cm.

  • Length (bed open with mattress): approx. 185–190 cm.

For each van model, we provide a dedicated page with complete details and an explanatory video.

These vans can also be equipped with a sink unit placed under the passenger window, in a California-style layout. (We include a button linking to this specific product).

Family Cars, SUVs & MPVs for Camper Furniture Kits:

Dacia Jogger, Dacia Lodgy, VW Touran, Citroën C8, Peugeot 807, Dacia Duster, Dacia Bigster...

Family cars, 4x4s, and MPVs have a slightly different configuration. In most cases (though not all), these vehicles are narrower and lower in height. This usually allows for relatively wide beds, since we design the mattress to be as wide as possible while maintaining structural stability.

However, due to the lower interior height, it's not possible to sit upright inside. As a result, these setups either come without a table, or with a table that is only suitable for outdoor use or for hammock position.

(This is actually the most common use of tables in smaller vehicles).

Aside from this difference, the configuration is very similar.

2+1 Camper Furniture Kit – Modular Van Conversion

All our Camper Furniture Kits can be made in the 2+1 layout, which works as follows:

  • The furniture is divided into two modules. You can use it complete (the 2 + 1) or choose to carry only the +2, giving you either a single bed with extra storage space or a double bed, depending on the trip.

  • It is designed especially for sports enthusiasts. For example, by leaving out the +1 module, you can carry a bike, surfboard, kayak, etc. Another common profile among our clients are musicians, who need a single bed plus space for instruments.

  • The 2 and the 1 modules are joined together with removable wing nuts, which can be attached or removed by hand (no tools required). Once connected, the setup is very similar to a standard Camper Furniture Kit. However, it is slightly less practical, less robust, and less optimized when opening and closing the bed compared to the standard version.

  • In short, the 2+1 layout is recommended mainly for individual use, or for cases where you need extra space for equipment as described. For general use, the standard kit remains the most practical option.

  • Another point to note is that the 2+1 version is slightly heavier overall due to the two pieces. However, it is also easier to handle when loading and unloading since the modules are separate. In some cases, the two pieces can even be stacked on top of each other for storage, which can be an advantage.

Camper Furniture Kit Materials & Finishes

Natural Poplar Plywood

Properties and Color:

  • Very light color, almost white, with a subtle natural wood grain.

  • The lightest option: for example, a Berlingo-size unit weighs around 30 kg, making it very easy to handle.

  • Moisture-resistant (hydrofuge): not fully waterproof but with excellent water resistance.

  • Thickness: 15 mm.

  • Strong and durable, difficult to splinter or break.

  • Advantage: the larger the furniture, the more noticeable the price benefit compared to other materials.

  • Disadvantage: the wood is relatively soft; while it doesn't splinter or break easily, it can get marked (for example, if sitting on it with keys in your pocket).

Natural Wood Phenolic Plywood

Properties and Color:

  • Medium to light natural wood color, with visible wood grain.

  • Thickness: 15 mm.

  • A lightweight yet strong material, with a more rustic feel—ideal for those who enjoy a natural wooden, cabin-style atmosphere.

  • Slightly heavier than poplar, but also more resistant. A Berlingo-size unit weighs approx. 40 kg.

  • Being phenolic plywood, it is waterproof: the wood can get wet but will not swell or rot, as the phenolic treatment is applied between the wood layers.

  • Advantage: highly durable, resistant to marks and scratches.

  • Disadvantage: the most porous of all the options.

Coachbuilder Phenolic Plywood (HPL Type)

Properties and Color:

  • Very dark brown, almost black.

  • Thickness: 15 mm.

  • The strongest and most durable of all materials, offering the highest quality.

  • Being phenolic plywood, it is fully waterproof, both inside and out.

  • HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) non-stick surface, making it extremely practical.

  • The easiest to clean of all options.

  • Disadvantage: it is the heaviest of the three, though still considered lightweight compared to most construction materials.

Custom Camper Mattresses for Van Conversion Kits

All our Camper Furniture Kits include a mattress pack in the price. (If you don't want the mattress pack, it can be deducted).

With nearly 9 years of experience building Camper Furniture Kits, many of our vans are still on the road today with our furniture and mattress packs, proving their durability and comfort.

Based on this experience, here are our main recommendations:

  • Modular mattresses are the best choice to optimize the dining/living mode. They're not only for using the table, but also for the hammock position. Each storage compartment has a dedicated mattress piece above it, meaning that if the bed is set up, you can still access compartments without having to dismantle the bed each time.

  • Even though they are divided into several pieces, since we have the measurements of nearly every van, the joints are not noticeable when sleeping. The mattresses fit tightly and provide a uniform sleeping surface.

  • We do not recommend viscoelastic (memory foam) mattresses for campers. While they are effective for home use, camper mattresses are much thinner (6–10 cm). Using viscoelastic in such thin mattresses reduces the durability of the base foam and offers little to no practical comfort improvement. Essentially, you end up paying more for less. That said, if a customer still prefers memory foam, we can make them with a small price supplement.

  • Our standard thickness is 8 cm, carefully chosen to optimize furniture height and interior space in small and medium vans. This thickness allows room for furniture + mattress + tray while maintaining a firm yet comfortable density—neither too hard nor too soft, but closer to firm for proper support.

  • Color: almost all our mattresses come in dark grey, which has proven to be the most popular choice. It blends nicely with most van interiors (which often have multiple grey tones), creates a modern contrast, and is also the most practical in terms of maintenance.

  • All our mattresses come with a removable zipper cover for easy washing.

We also offer other mattress models, such as 3-piece transversal folding mattresses or accordion-style mattresses, especially designed for vans that do not include a table.
